Jorge Abeledo is the Director of International Short-Term Exchanges at Georgetown University’s Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED). With over 20 years of experience managing multi-million dollar, federally sponsored international education and development portfolios, Jorge leads the strategic design and implementation of high-impact exchange programs funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) and USAID.

Throughout his career, Jorge has managed complex operations across more than 30 countries, with a deep regional specialization in Latin America and the Caribbean. He is a recognized expert in the design of “blended learning” and hybrid exchange models, having successfully led the digital transformation of flagship initiatives like the Youth Ambassadors Program to ensure instructional continuity and sustained engagement in a post-pandemic environment. Previously at CIED, he managed the Scholarship for Education and Economic Development (SEED) program, the Cooperative Association of States for Scholarships (CASS) program, and the Indigenous and Afro-Latino Scholarship program.

Jorge is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he served as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Human Development at the Universidad Nacional General Sarmiento (UNGS), teaching media and communication and researching the use of informational technologies in education. His international experience began early in life when his family moved to Chile and the United States before returning to Argentina where he finished high school.

He holds a Master of Arts in Learning, Design, and Technology from Georgetown University and a Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He also earned a Nonprofit Management Executive Certificate from the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University. Jorge speaks, reads, and writes in English and Spanish.
