Salvadorans Benefit from Over $1 Million in Scholarships

The U.S. Embassy, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Georgetown University’s Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) awarded this morning 46 scholarships to Salvadorans to pursue technical studies in the United States, with an investment of over $1,082,000.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton Roundtable with Indigenous Students

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in Mexico City, Mexico partaking in a roundtable discussion with students at the National Palace of Fine Arts. This was Mrs. Clintons first trip to Latin America as Secretary of State and she emphasized the need for positive relations with Mexico to continue in order to grow. Mrs. Clinton highlighted the SEED program at Georgetown University as being a huge influence on intercultural relations and a boon to communities abroad that do not normally have these kinds of opportunities locally.

CASS Participation in First Youth Conference and Networking Event

Eighteen (18) graduates of the two-year CASS program in El Salvador, along with Mr. José Bonilla, CASS Country Coordinator, and Ms. Marisel de García, CASS Assistant, participated in the exciting Espacio Centroamérica Caribe 2008 event for youth sponsored and organized by the Televisa Group of Mexico with the cooperation of the Telecorporación Salvadoreña (TCS).
Georgetown University MEPI Student Leader Invited to Speak Before Congress

On October 15, 2008, the Congressional Human Rights Commission and the Congressional Task Force on International Religious Freedom invited four leaders from Bahrain, including Ms. Maryam Al Khawaja (2006 Georgetown MEPI Alumna) to present at a briefing on the "Impact of Political Reform on Religious Freedom in Bahrain."

MEPI Undergraduate Student Leaders Program at Georgetown

For a fourth summer, Georgetown University CIED hosted a delegation of students participating in the U.S. Department of State's Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Undergraduate Student Leaders Program. These students, from eighteen different countries throughout the Middle East and North Africa, spent six weeks at one of six host institutions learning about leadership, civil society, and civic activism.
CASS Alumni Give Back in Haiti

Poland's President Honors ECESP

ECESP Trains Macedonian Health Executives

NESA Undergraduate Exchange Program Participants Convene in Washington, DC

Under the auspices of the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, forty seven students from 15 countries and 11 host institutions convened in Washington, D.C. for the first Near East and South Asia Undergraduate Exchange Program Re-entry Workshop. This workshop was designed to help students reflect on their experience in the United States and develop coping skills to deal with reverse culture shock.
CASS Scholars in Washington, D.C. for IDB Young Hemispheric Leaders International Conference

Eleven outstanding Cycle 2006 two-year CASS scholars participated in the prominent Vanguardia Latina (VL) 2008 Conference held at the headquarters of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in Washington D.C., from April 29 to May 2, 2008. This international event, which brought together over 150 Latin and Latin American students from various countries, provided a forum to link academic, private and governmental sectors of the continent with selected outstanding university students.
CASS Alumni Scholarship Announcement

CIED is pleased to announce that the Universidad de Celaya in Guanajuato, Mexico has agreed to generously offer a full scholarship for a Cooperative Association of States for Scholarships (CASS) Mexico alumnus to complete an undergraduate degree. The agreement was signed by the Director of CIED, Chantal Santelices and the President of the Universidad Celaya, Dr. Carlos Fernandez Collado. MEPI Undergraduate Student Leaders Meet for Alumni Conference in Morocco

Over 100 alumni of the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Undergraduate Student Leader's Program were reunited in Marrakesh, Morocco, February 4-8, 2007 for a conference focused on engagement in civil society. They were joined by representatives of the U.S. Department of State as well as representatives from the five American institutions where the students were hosted over the summer (Benedictine University, IL; University of Delaware, DE; Dickinson College, PA; Georgetown University, DC and Montana State University, MT).
CASS Professional Programs Introduces New Field of Study--Youth Leadership

In June 2007, eighteen participants from Haiti arrived in the U.S. to take part in a six-month Youth Strengthening Organization course offered at the University of South Florida. The Jim Walter Partnership Center and the School of Social Work at USF under the leadership of Dr. William Rowe were essential to the successful implementation of this new program.

ECESP Conducts Training for Macedonian Ministry of Health

From November 26 to November 30, 2007, The East Central European Scholarship Program (ECESP) at Georgetown University provided a one week training program in Skopie, Macedonia titled "Hospital in Transition." The training was conducted in cooperation with the Macedonian Ministry of Health and was provided as part of a Health Management and Leadership Training Program organized by Macedonia School of Public Health.
